Aromatic aldehydes and formaldehydes don't contain
-hydrogen and thus undergo Cannizzaro reaction. Formaldehyde is more reactive than aromatic aldehyde in nucleophillic addition reactions. This is due to electron-donating resonance effect of aromatic ring which makes carbon less electrophillic.
Hence, Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
